The Changebringer cometh...
As promised in my last stack, a new home for my dungeonsynth music in particular. I just thought it deserved a ‘real’ artist name, as well as a dedicated YouTube channel and Bandcamp page.
My personal brand of dungeonsynth is a synthesis of the sub-sub DS genres I like most, with inevitable chiptune influences, and a very hearty dose of Cinematic, Romantic and Neo-Classical elements. Basically the aesthetic was inescapable for me, and I have full awareness that it’s about as niche as anything can get. This pleases me, and it’s really only out of a sense of excitement for sharing that I bother with a hope that the music will gain traction of any sort on the YouTube DS community or elsewhere. Not to say I don’t think the music deserves it!
My readers will notice my mention of The Endless Earth, which is probably still somewhat mysterious. In the liner notes I say the setting/notion is “where dreams are purified and nightmares slink off to die.” To spoil things a bit, I think of it as a kind of collective subconscious world, sitting deeper and more objectively real than Michael Ende’s Fantastica (Fantasia for the movie fans). It presents, sometimes, as an infinite or near-infinite sphere where more or less coherent realms are separated by ice walls, chasms, or other forms of wasteland. If something exists, it's been processed through the subconscious and seeped down into the EE, where it mixes and merges with the rest of the disparate ideas.
Over time, the crucible is heated by application of valor and wrath, and eventually (or periodically) the dross is skimmed by the power of the Inevitable King of Kings.
That’s all to say that I actually dreamt of the Changebringer once, which seemed to be some sort of elemental spirit with a golem-like vessel and a ruby heart. He/it awoke from stasis and gave me the gem heart before I left the place of meeting and trekked on to meet the ten virgins from Christ’s parable itself. Alas, I was not exposed to the actual wedding banquet.
So there’s the rest of the inspiration for this project. Me being a layperson, some of that may sound silly, but as an SFF writer, I don’t care. I figure it’ll keep refining in the old brain till I die, and surely some bits will turn out to have more or less Truth in them.
And that’s all all really to say, enjoy my fun, silly, emotional, groovy, and sometimes experimental but always melodic, music!
